Kelso 3 - 18 Jed-Forest
Jed moved up to 4th in BT National league div 1 with a scrappy 18 - 3 win over old rivals Kelso at Poynder Park.
The game was played in blustery conditions following a very wet morning and early afternoon and the players were struggling, Kelso must have had half a dozen fumbles in the first quarter alone. Jed were first on the scoreboard from a long range penalty with the wind from Gregor Mein after 12 minutes and it was another 12 minutes before we saw the first try. Harkness broke down the blindside and offloaded to Lewis Young who in turn fed Rory Marshall who cut inside his winger and brilliantly stepped away from the fullback to score an excellent try. Most of the game had been played between the two 22s and a rare period of extended pressure from Jed resulted in our second try when the excellent Gregor Law emerged from the maul with a huge grin after scoring his first try for Jed. HT Kelso 0 - 13 Jed-Forest.
The second half was very scrappy and very cold with neither team threatening. Kelso kicked a penalty after 50 minutes but nothing much happened until the 65th minute when sub Robert Hogg offloaded to Lewis who fed Gregor who raced in to make the game safe. We should have had a bonus point try when Robbie Shirra-Gibb broke through and passed to Gregor Young who had Lewis and Rory Marshall outside but he butchered the chance and we had to settle for the 18 - 3 win.
