Match Report

Another week and another massive game for Jed. It was also a very special game for two our Royal Blues finest. Robert Hogg celebrated his 200th appearance for Jed-Forest RFC.......and....... It also happens to be his 29th Birthday. It was also Grant Stewart's last time of pulling on the Royal Blue for another season at Riverside Park. This has been Grants 2nd visit to Riverside Park and we have enjoyed his stay with us. Grant is returning to South Africa and we wish him and his Fiancée Robyn all the very best for the future.

Robert Hogg's 200th game for for Jed today, capped off with a hat-trick of tries

Jed started very quickly with Robbie Shirra-Gibb drifting in and sending Lewis Young scorching under the posts, Mein converted. Jed scored again when 200 man, Robert Hogg burst through some weak tackling to score under the posts, Mein converted to give Jed a 14 - 0 lead after 5 minutes. The game disintegrated a bit under the conditions for the next 25 minutes and GHA kicked a penalty. The Jed pack was going well and a good maul set up a chance for Mein who barged over for Jed's third try. Robbie Shirra-Gibb scored Jed's bonus point try soon after and Mein added the conversion from wide out. GHA scored a late try out of nowhere to make it 26 - 8 at half time.

Another blistering start saw Michael Weekley score Jed's 5th try to make it 31 - 8. GHA had changed their scrum half and brought on the very experienced Peter Jericevich and he galvanised the GHA team. They ground out a score after 70 minutes but the best was still to come. Robert Hogg replied almost immediately and just 5 minutes later he intercepted a loose pass to run the length of the pitch to complete his hat-trick to round off a special day. GHA scored another consolation try on full time to make the final score 41 - 22 to Jed.

This was a decent win but we must tighten up the lineout before next week’s trip to Marr and there was no need to ship 3 tries. A bonus point win in testing conditions is always good though and keeps in contention at the right end of the league.
