Jed reach final of Gala & Melrose 7s
Jed have started their quest to win the kings of the sevens in great form, reaching the final in both of the first tournaments at Gala and Melrose.
The Gala tournament is played in groups and we won ours with narrow wins against Selkirk 12 - 10 and Hawick 28 - 22. We played the hosts, Gala in the Semi and won 26 - 19 to set up a final with old foes Watsonians. Watsonians were just too good in the final and the romped to a convincing 38 - 5 win.
Melrose is the big one and once again we were the last amatures left after a superb run to the final. We were comfortable 24 - 10 winners against Selkirk with late 7s signing Iain Chisholm running the show and scoring 2 tries. We played Belgium next, (yes the country) and sneaked through after Lewis & Ross Combe had scored 2 tries each. The 2nd try from Lewis was amazingly scored while we only had 5 on the pitch after 2 early yellow cards. Edinburgh Accies had looked good but we saw them off with a great 31 - 15 win to set up a final against the pro's from Edinburgh.
Melrose had pushed Edinburgh hard and it looked as if we had a chance. Lewis scored first but the lead was short lived. Edinburgh were keeping it tight and the sheer size of the pro's was proving too much and Edinburgh ground out a 24 - 5 lead half way through the second half. We did not give up and hit back with 2 converted tries from Combe & Cheg to make it close but another brutal try sealed the win for Edinburgh, 29 - 19.
We move on to Hawick and Berwick this weekend. Lets hope for more of the same.
