Jed-Forest 78 - 0 Dalziel
Jed advanced to the BT Cup 2nd round with a comfortable 78 – 0 win over Dalziel. Two leagues separated the clubs and the gulf in class showed in the first minute when Gregor Young waltzed through some very weak tackling to score Jed’s first try. Jed’s speed was evidently too much for the visitors and we scored 3 more tries in a scrappy first half. The pick of the tries was scored by Robbie Shirra-Gibb who rounded the winger after a superb run from the outstanding Craig Cowan. Elliot Stewart kicked 3 conversions including 2 beauties from out wide. HT 26 – 0.
Dalziel had done pretty well to restrict the first half score but the heat had taken it’s toll and we had a very strong bench still to call on. Gregor Young scored another 2 tries to complete an early hat-trick. Lewis scored a quick brace, The second was his 50th try in a Jed shirt. By now Sean Goodfellow had replaced Danny Ritchie and he looked like a man on a mission. We have a number of good scrum halfs again and he did himself a lot of good on his return. He ran riot for the last half hour making break after break. He also scored 2 tries. Callum Young joined his older brothers on the score sheet in between Goody’s brace with Jed’s 10th try. There can’t be many teams where 3 brothers have all scored. Ryan Gibson scored the last try and Robbie Yourston kicked the last of his 6 second half conversions.to make it 78 – 0, FT.
A good performance but some sloppy handling in the first half can be improved. We still have players In reserve too. New boy Blade Roff arrived on Thursday and he looks like a unit and the likes of Robert Hogg and Rory Marshall are still to play.
