Match report
A glorous September sun greeted Edinburgh Accies at Riverside for the BT National League Division 1 fixture. Jed played into the sun, towards the town but it was Accies who struck first with an early penalty. Jed hit back from a long range penaty by Robbie Yourston. Jed should have scored when Shirra- Gibb broke down the wing under the stand but a loose pass to Lewis Young scuppered that. We were awarded another penatly a few phases after and Yourston kicked another beaurty to make it 6 - 3. Another break broke down but Blade Roff re gathered and the ball was worked out to Shirra-Gibb. He stepped inside and did enough to stay upright and a great offload to the supporting Gregor Law allowed the second row to go ever un challenged. Yourston got a bit lucky when the ball hit the inside of the post but the conversion was good. HT Jed 13 - 3 Ed Accies.
Accies scored first in the second half when their big number 8, Tom Drennan found a huge gap in the Jed defence. A good conversion made it 13 - 10. Jed were awarded with a penalty after Law had been taken out of play at the side of a break down. Yourston kicked his easiest penalty. Accies did have one final push at the Jed line but a brilliant steal from Gregor Young ripped the ball out of the Accies attackers hands to saftey. FT Jed 16 - 10 Ed Accies.
I genuinely believe Jed deserved the win. We could easily have had 2 or 3 more tries but for very sloppy last passes. Still a good win and the coaches will be pleased with our defence in the last quarter.
Not many outstanding performers, Gregor Young stood up well in defence and Blade Roff showed some good touches. My man of the match has to be Robbie Yourston. He has a good solid pass and his goal kicking was great. Just one miss from miles out. Otherwise perfect.
The last mention goes to Lewis Young who made his 100th appearance for Jed.
