Jed maintained their unbeaten start with a comfortable 71 - 20 win over Howe of Fife on Saturday.
You would never have imagined the final score if you had only watched the first 25 minutes of this match. We were never in their half and we were creating nothing.
Howe of Fife scored first when the wind caught out Lewis Young and he failed to gather an up and under. The Howe centre hacked the ball on and just caught up with it to score just wide of the posts. They kicked the conversion and a penalty to take a 10 - 0 lead after 15 minutes. Howe could easily have been further ahead, had they chosen to take shots at goal from several kickable penalties.
Jed didn't get near the try line until a break from Robert Hogg allowed Robbie Shirra-Gibb to score under posts after 30 minutes. Jed scored again straight after the restart when some great hands and wide running eventually set Robbie Yourston free to score Jed's second try. He converted both. We shared a penalty each and Jed went into half time with a very unlikely 17 - 13 lead.
Jed won a penalty early in the second half and Sean Goody took a quick tap and made 30 yards. The ball was recycled out wide and big Paulo barged over from a close out ruck to score Jed's third try. The bonus point try came from more great hands up the blind side from a half way scrum and Sean Goody was last on hand to score in the corner.Yourston kicked a beauty conversion to make it 29 - 13. Jed scored two more tries down the wee stand when Lewis Young and Shirra- Gibb had too much pace for the defenders. How did get another try from a line out drive but they were shot by now.
Three more tries from Gregor Young, Connor Hogg and Callum Young gave us a 63 - 10 lead going into the last minutes. The biggest cheer of the day was saved for the last try and it was Big Clark Skeldon who scored his first try for Jed in his third season.
