Jed faced their biggest test of the year on Saturday with a trip to Falkirk who had only been beaten by Marr this season.
Falkirk started strongly as expected and kicked an early penalty when Jed were pinged for not rolling away in the tackle. Jed were back on level terms after 15 mins when Yourston kicked a penalty for Falkirk not releasing in the tackle. Falkirk missed 2 long penalty attempts soon after and the game drifted until Jed took a quick line out just before half time. We messed up in the middle of the pitch but still managed to get it out to Shirra-Gibb who made good ground before being caught near their 22. The Falkirk number 7 was yellow carded for slowing the ball I think and Yourston kicked the penalty. Falkirk still had time to miss a more kickable penalty and Jed went in to half time 6 - 3 up.
Jed started the 2nd half brilliantly. Callum Young made a great break up the wing but slipped up trying to beat the full back. Jed recycled and the forwards took control and drove on. After 5 or 6 more phases it was Connor Hogg who made the last drive of at least 2.5 yards to score his 4th try of the season. Yourston converted. Falkirk scored a clever try next. The scrum half chipped the ball over a stagnant Robbie Shirra-Gibb straight from a scrum and the winger collected easily to score in the corner. Falkirk 8 - 13 Jed. Jed scored again after 55 minutes. A great off load by Shirra-Gibb set Gregor Young free but they had enough cover. We recycled it to the other side of the pitch and Lewis Young scored out wide, Yourston converted again to stretch the lead to 20 - 8. Falkirk to their credit never gave up and they kept coming at Jed. Jed's defence has been good all season and we held them out until virtually the last play of the game. Falkirk scored out wide at that made the final score Falkirk 13 - 20 Jed.
A really solid workman like win for Jed that keeps us unbeaten but such are the nuances of the bonus point system we are only 1 point clear of Marr and Edinburgh Accies won have made bonus points in all of their matches so far.
