Match Report

Jed made it into the 3rd Round of the BT Cup on Saturday with a nervy 34 - 27 win agaisnt Falkirk

It was never going to be an easy game on paper, with Falkilrk only 1 place behind us in the league but it should have been easier in reality. We were 34 - 13 up going into the last 10 minutes and we had cling on hard during the last few.

Jed scored the first try of the match after 20 minutes when Robbie Youston noticed a huge open blindside to score in the scoreboard corner. As usual he kicked a brilliant conversion and put Jed 7 - 3 up. Robbie kicked a penalty then straight after the restart we scored our best try when the twins combined from our own half to send in Greg Anderson for his first and only try for Jed. More about him later.

Falkirk are not in the top 4 of the league for nothing and they fought back with a penalty and a converted try to make it 17 - 13 to Jed at HT.

Jed's third try came after 48 minutes. Monty Mitchell beat about 19 men with a run into their 22 the ball was quickly recycled back across towards the Kop and we were stopped just short of the line. The forwards were soon there and big Skelly twisted over for his 3rd try in Jed colours. Yourston converted.

Falkirk had their big number 4 and acting Captain binned for a punch and we took immediate advantage. The penalty was close to the Falkirk line and we kicked to touch. We won the line oujt and the forwards drove over with Jack Sudlow touching down and Robbie converting.

There was still 20 minutes left and Greggor Law was yellow carded for obstruction. We lost Robbie Yourston to an ankle injury but we were still in control. Falkirk must be given huge credit though and they never gave up and scored 2 late tries to give Jed a massive fright. FT Jed 34 - 27 Falkirk.

Greg Anderson had to be taken off with a bad shoulder injury late into the game and was taken to hospital. It's comes with great sadness and regret to advise that due to injury Greg Anderson has had to retire from Rugby. Ali Campbell, Jed's Director of Rugby said.... "It is extremely disappointing for us to lose Greg half way through the season due to injury, he is a very talented player and will be a huge miss for the club"

We wish Greg all the best for the future and hope he has a speedy recovery.
