To Premier division 2
Jed secured promotion back to Premier division 2 at the first time of asking with a thrilling 48 - 14 win over Lasswade at Riverside today.

The sun was shining and a big crowd turned up to see if Jed could keep their nerves at bay and secure the bonus point win needed to secure the promotion we all desperately wanted.

Lasswade started much the better team when their excellently drilled forwards rumbled over from a great rolling maul to go 7 - 0 up. Jed eventually got ball in hand and Chris Laidlaw sliced through the Lasswade defence and put Robert Hogg in for a great try.

Chris Gillon scored next when he was sent through by a neat inside pass from a set play and Laidlaw converted again to give Jed a 14 - 7 lead. Gillon scored again when he was first to get to the ball after a deft chip from the midfield to give Jed our 3rd try. Lasswade's forward were causing us all sorts of trouble with the rolling maul and they scored again to keep Jed alert.

Jed's 4th try to secure the priceless bonus point was a beauty. Robert Hogg attacked up the stand side going towards the town and took the tackle of two lasswade defenders but he brilliantly offloaded to Mark Burke. He still had a lot to do but he twisted out of two tackles to send the Kop wild. Laidlaw converted again to give Jed a 26 - 14 HT lead.

Chris Laidlaw scored a try of his own next to secure his place as top points scorer in the Borders this season. Jed were playing well within ourselves by now and further tries from John Szkudro and Mark Burke and a penalty from Laidlaw gave Jed the victory.
