Jed-Forest 27 - 10 Aberdeenshire
Jed progressed to the second round of the BT Cup but it wasn't pretty. Several changes to last weeks team with brand new combinations seemed to be making us nervous and we dropping the ball far too often. To make matters worse Greg Nagle was sin binned after 24 minutes and Aberdeenshire kicked the penalty. They used the extra man well and scored a try 2 minutes later to go 10 - 0 up. After Nagles return Jed started to get to grips with their new team mates and we were awarded several penalties. Some looked kickable but we went for the corners instead without success. We were awarded a further shot at half time and new boy Daniel Ritchie closed the gap to 10 - 3.
Jed swapped Jason Barrie for John Szkudro at half time and it only took 3 minutes for him to barge over and score in the scoreboard corner. Rithcie converted to draw the game. Donald Grieve scored a very similar try 6 minutes later and Ritchie was excellent with the kick again. Jed's other new boys, Harkness and the speedy Ross Combe were now breaking the line regularly and David Gobby was on hand to finish one of these breaks in the same corner only 4 minutes later. Jed's last try came from a huge overlap and Fraser Harkness was very generous in passing to Combe to make it 27 - 10 after an hour. With early season fitness waining the game fizzled out and that was the final score.
The third quarter was really good but we need to start playing like that for more of the game if we are to have a successfull season.
