BT NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Both teams knew that a win would open a gap between the contenders for relegation from the league and mid table safety.  The game kicked off under a bitter winter sun, with a healthy crowd to cheer on the teams.

It was the visitors who were quick off the blocks showing more enterprise in the early exchanges and were rewarded with a try after a line out catch and drive after only 5 minutes which was converted by stand off McGee.  Jed fought hard to get into the game and after pressurising the Marr line Harkness was rewarded with a try after 13 minutes and converted by scrum half Richie.

Both teams were now entertaining the crowd with some exiting rugby and it was the visitors who scored next after another rolling maul from their mobile pack, prop Ferguson emerged with the ball to claim the score on the 22nd minute.  Jed then hit back with an important score on the stroke of half time when Szkudro barged over after the home pack pressurised the visitors line, Richie converted to make the half time score 14 - 12 to the home team.

After some choice words by the coaching staff during the half time break it was Jed that started the half the stronger, hitting a purple patch in the first 20 minutes. Gregor Young scoring after only 4 minutes, quickly followed by a try from Jed hooker Raeburn then a penalty try after some interference on Harkness after a chip and chase.  Gregor Young scored a further try on 18 minutes and not to be outdone Robbie Gibb scored a fine try on the 21st minute, Richie managing to convert three of the scores.

The home side started to make changes to the team lineup giving much needed game time to the bench. Credit to the visitors Marr who never let their heads go down managed to add a further two tries to earn themselves a much needed losing bonus point.

Final score Jed 45 - Marr 24

Many thanks to the ground staff and army of volunteers that helped remove the snow from the pitch in order to make the game playable, the victory was just reward for the hard work from everyone.
