Jed-Forest 8 - 8 Kelso
Jed welcomed our closest neigbours Kelso to Riveside for a National and Border league double header. With both teams stuck in a relegation battle an ideal result would have been a draw with both teams scoring 4 tries. That was never likley especially with the very strong wet wind blowing across the pitch all day.
Kelso had the wind advantage and straight away Jed struggled to catch the kick off and Kelso were awarded a scrum just outside our 22. They won their own ball and picked up from the base. From there on a succession of very well worked drives gave them a great forwards try after only 1 minute. Andrew Skeen hit the post with the conversion to give Kelso a 5 - 0 lead.
Jed dominated possesion for most of the first half we were rewarded with a try when John Szkudro emerged with the ball following a forward drive to level the game at 5 apeice after 22 minutes. Neither team were really threatening to score but Kelso were awarded a penalty on a rare visit to Jed's 22. Andrew Skeen hit the post again but it bounced inside this time and gave Kelso a 8 - 5 HT lead.
The second half was very much like the first but with Jed failing to take advantage of the wind and Kelso dominating possesion this time. Jed levelled the game from a Daniel Ritchie penalty on 51 minutes but that was the end on the scoring. The wind was spoiling any chance of a good game with Jed especially struggling with lineout throws. Although it was a pretty tense last half hour both teams will relatively happy the draw. FT 8 - 8
This was Jed's last home game of the season and we have a daunting trip to promotion chasing GHA next week. We are at Dundee on the 21st then Biggar on the 28th. 1 more win and a bonus point along the way should keep us safe but it's still going to be a nervey 3 weeks.
