David Hendry - 52 Castlegate, Jedburgh and also residing in Edinburgh

We have recently received notification of the death of a past member of Jed-Forest RFC. I have been asked by family members to post a notification here to make anyone who knew them aware of the funeral arrangements and also to allow anyone to pass on condolence's via our page.

David Hendry - 52 Castlegate, Jedburgh and also residing in Edinburgh

David was the third son of William Hendry and his wife Betty Beattie. David grew up in Jedburgh and his father was the manager of the British Linen Bank and the bank house was at one time the residence of the Sheriff of Roxburgh who dispensed what was known as Jeddart Justice. "Hing the man and try him efter".

David had his secondary education at Watsons in Edinburgh and went on to do Geography at Edinburgh University. He eventually became a planning officer in West Lothian.
He was deeply interested in transport and involved with the bus services in Jedburgh and the Borders, and along with Peter was a collector of ticket machines. He was also an avid supporter of Jedburgh Rugby Club and was known to have a drink or two in the Canon pub.

David and his brothers kept a house in Jedburgh at Castlegate which David still used although his mother moved to Edinburgh when she was widowed. David's home was in Edinburgh but his heart was in his beloved Jedburgh.

The funeral has been arranged for Thursday 27th August 2015 2:30pm in Warriston Crematorium Cloister Chapel and afterwards to 29b Corbiehill Road, Edinburgh where one of David’s neighbours has offered tea.
