Jed 84 - 25 Orkney
Jed were nervous going into the first round of the Cup. We have a long injury list which has meant that we have already used 36 different players in our first five games this season. Orkney are also a team on the rise up the leagues after gaining promotion last season so on paper it looked like a close match. Jed were wary when Orkney only named 16 players in their squad for the match day programme but due to late call offs they had struggled to get a full squad to travel to the other end of Scotland.

Jed's nevers were soon forgotten when Lewis Young scored an early try followed by two more from Robbie Shirra-Gibb and Robert Hogg  to give us a 17 - 0 lead within 10 minutes. Orkney started to tighted up their game and landed a penalty after 20 minutes and kept Jed out untill Shirra-Gibb sored his second try on 27 minutes. Orkney kicked another penalty but Graham Robson scored Jed's fith try to make it 29 - 6 at half time. Mein had converted 2 of Jed's tries.

The second half started like the first with Lewis Young scoring after a minute of the restart. He then completed his hat-track with a fine solo effort after 50 minutes. The game was wide open now and it was good to see Orkney scrore a try to make it 39 - 13 with 25 minutes left. Jed then scored 4 quick tries, Shirra-Gibb nabbed 2 to give him four on the day. Craig Cowan finished off the best move of the day as Rory Marshall put Robert Hogg down the wing and Cowan was supporting inside and he went in under the posts and Fraser Harkness scored a solo try. Orkney scored another try even though there was a blatant knock on to make it 65 - 18 after 67 minutes. Grant Stewart scored next but the biggest cheer of the day was saved for (Big Evil) Nicky Bates who some how managed to see the line from under his hair and he flopped over for Jed's 13th try of the match. Orkney scored a late consolation try from an intercepted pass but Andrew Thomson completed the scoring with a simple try at full time. Mein had kicked 5 more conversions.
